Madan Nepali is a Clinical Microbiologist and Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC)-registered Medical Laboratory Professional with progressive experience across clinical laboratories, public health laboratories, molecular diagnostics, tuberculosis and leprosy laboratory services, migration health, research, field data collection, disease surveillance and community health activities in Nepal.
He currently works as a Microbiologist at the National Influenza Center, National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), Nepal, where he contributes to national laboratory surveillance and molecular diagnostic activities for respiratory and emerging infectious diseases. His current responsibilities include molecular testing of influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), SARS-CoV-2 and Mpox, outbreak sample processing, laboratory quality control, assay and kit validation, ISO 15189-aligned documentation, and genomic surveillance activities, including laboratory work associated with next-generation sequencing and library preparation for respiratory viruses.
Throughout his career, Madan has gained broad practical experience in clinical microbiology, molecular diagnostics, hematology, clinical biochemistry, parasitology, histopathology, blood banking and infectious disease diagnostics. He has also worked in specialized public health laboratory settings, including tuberculosis (TB) laboratory services and leprosy laboratory services, where he contributed to specimen processing, microbiological examination, diagnostic testing, quality procedures and laboratory-based disease control activities.
His tuberculosis laboratory experience includes AFB smear examination using Ziehl–Neelsen and Auramine staining techniques, mycobacterial specimen processing, tuberculosis screening and GeneXpert MTB/RIF testing, together with appropriate biosafety, quality control, documentation and sample-traceability practices.
